Team debut: 2008In February, after more than nine years spent working as a technical analyst at Oppenheimer & Co., Carter Braxton Worth jumped to Sterne, Agee & Leach — but he doesn’t budge on this roster, extending his run at No. 3 to a third year. One major theme Worth has been pursuing is the deteroriation of industrials names in the S&P 500 Index, which he expects to continue through the first quarter of 2015, given the poor performance of major players in that benchmark. Until recently an outperformer, he notes, industrials’ fortunes are fading, and Worth expects the group to drop by 10 percent from current levels. However, he projects that real estate investment trusts and S&P 500 Utilities, which have been stumbling recently, are likely to resume their outperformance. Those two sectors are “coming back to life, as long-term interest rates continue to decline in the U.S. and worldwide,” he notes. Worth “is right more than he’s wrong,” declares one backer. “Nobody has a perfect record.”
