Diego Celedón & team J.P. Morgan First-place appearances: 4
Total appearances: 9
Team debut: 1993 Diego Celedón’s J.P. Morgan trio tumbles to third place after four straight years at No. 1. Still, the Santiago-based team continues to attract lofty praise. “No one comes close to Diego on Chile,” insists one investor. “He’s a one-man wonder.” The analysts have a neutral rating on their country, citing disappointing macro data and negative local sentiment around impending tax reform. But individual bright spots can be found, Celedón says, particularly in S.A.C.I. Falabella, the second-largest operator of retail chains in Chile. Santiago-based Falabella has been trading at a discounted valuation, says Celedón, and boasts attractive growth prospects for the year ahead. Also favored is Santiago’s Banco Santander-Chile, since the bank, the country’s largest by assets, is well positioned to benefit from low credit risk, faster loan growth and increased inflation. This year, Celedón also leads the No. 3 team in coverage of North Andean Countries and a squad that claims a runner-up position for its tracking of Argentina.
