Patrick Hummel, Jean-François Meymandi & team, UBS

Last year, when this sector was introduced, UBS captured the pole position. The four-person team slips to second and sports a change in leadership; it is now directed by Patrick Hummel and new co-captain Jean-François Meymandi, following the departure of Alberto Gandolfi for the Utilities sector (where he co-leads a runner-up team). Hummel, who works out of Frankfurt, Zurich-based Meymandi and their associates “downgraded wind turbine manufacturers to sell in early spring — at peak levels,” recalls one buy-side fan, highlighting their April downgrade of Spain’s Gamesa Corp. Tecnológica from neutral to sell, at €7.42 (near its high for the year), partly on increasing Chinese competition. The stock had plunged 56.7 percent, to €3.21, by the end of the year.
