2017 All-America Executive Team Champs include Enterprise Products Partners, Kirby Corp.

Four companies sweep their sectors on the 2017 All-America Executive Team, Institutional Investor’s exclusive annual ranking of the nation’s top corporate leaders as judged by investment professionals:

  • Enterprise Products Partners, a midstream energy services provider (Natural Gas + Master Limited Partnerships);
  • Kirby Corp., the leading tank barge operator in the U.S. (Shipping);
  • Kroger Co., the nation’s biggest grocery retailer (Food Retailers); and
  • Schlumberger, the world’s top oil field services provider (Oil Services + Equipment).

We asked portfolio managers and sell-side analysts to name the best CEOs, CFOs, and investor relations professionals at the U.S. companies they cover, and to evaluate these businesses on their performance in each of eight IR attributes, including accessibility of senior managements, quality and depth of answers to inquiries, transparency of financial reporting and disclosure. The overall rankings in each of the four categories — Best CEO, Best CFO, Best IR Professional, and Best IR Company — are based on combined buy- and sell-side votes.

A total of 3,706 individuals representing 2,214 companies appear on this year’s rosters, which reflect the opinions of almost 3,200 investment professionals at some 900 financial services firms. Respondents from the buy side work at firms that collectively manage an estimated $8.1 trillion in U.S. equities.

With 42, California is home to the largest number of celebrated companies, followed by Texas with 37 and New York with 34. This year’s team includes corporations from 34 states and the District of Columbia.

In a separate breakout our ranking also includes the 2017 All-America Executive Team Midcap Companies roster, which recognizes businesses with a market capitalization of between $2 billion and $10 billion.

Click on the Most Honored Companies link in the navigation table at right to view the most highly regarded outfits in each of the survey’s 45 sectors, ranked by each entity’s total weighted score (each first-place position is worth three points; second place, two; and third place, one). Names that are highlighted in orange have warranted recognition as a Most Honored Company, a designation awarded to those outfits that earn two or more top-three appearances; rank is determined by weighted score, calculated as above. In the accompanying table Most Honored Companies are listed above Honored Companies regardless of score.
