Greenlight’s Funds Fall Sharply in August

The performance would have been even worse if not for strong gains in the hedge fund firm’s short book.

David Einhorn’s Greenlight Capital suffered a big setback in August.

At least one of its long-short funds fell 4.9 percent for the month, cutting its gains for the year to 15.2 percent, according to a person familiar with the results.

In contrast, the Standard & Poor’s 500 stock index lost 1.8
