Another day, another successful unicorn IPO.

Shares of Slack Technologies, which went public on Thursday, closed at $38.62, up 48.5 percent from its reference price of $26 after opening for trading at $38.50.

The workplace-messaging company used a direct listing, an unusual method for going public, where by there were no underwriters and the company did not sell shares.
