BlackRock has made a number of new hires focused on its pension and outsourced chief investment officer teams, the firm announced in an internal memo Wednesday.

The firm has hired Martin Jaugietis to co-lead its Client Portfolio Solutions Pensions team, as well as Joseph Gelly to work as a managing director and Matthew Weinstein to work as a director of its pensions OCIO team, the memo said.

“As clients increasingly shift to outcome-oriented investment services and solutions, BlackRock is deepening its commitment to whole-portfolio engagement with clients,” a spokesperson said via email.

Jaugietis most recently worked as the managing director for multi-asset solutions at Russell Investments, where he led client portfolio management for the firm’s U.S. asset management business. Before that, he served as head of liability-driven investment (LDI) solutions at Russell.

Before joining Russell, Jaugietis spent 12 years as a senior investment consultant at both Russell Investments and Willis Towers Watson.

He started at BlackRock on September 4, the spokesperson said. Jaugietis is a managing director and Americas co-head of BlackRock’s CPS pensions team alongside Gabriella Barschdorff, who has worked for the firm since 2014.

“As joint leads, Gabriella and Martin will oversee portfolio construction and asset allocation for our pension OCIO clients as well as lead our client engagements from an investment perspective in partnership with our colleagues in [our institutional client business],” according to the memo.

Gelly, who joined BlackRock’s Boston office in July, had previously worked as a partner and head of sales and distribution at Mercer. Before joining Mercer, Gelly worked for Russell Investments leading the U.S. team responsible for OCIO sales and as an executive vice president at Congress Asset Management, according to the memo.

Weinstein, meanwhile, joined BlackRock in June. As a director for the firm’s pensions OCIO team, Weinstein is responsible for building relationships with institutional investors, the memo said.

Weinstein spent 12 years at Goldman Sachs Asset Management before joining BlackRock. His most recent role at Goldman was an institutional relationship manager.
