Derik de Bruin, who debuted at No. 1 last year, when this sector first appeared in the survey, falls to third; but he retains a loyal following, thanks to his ability to “cut through the noise and the hype and just tell it like it is,” according to one portfolio manager. The analyst joined BofA Merrill Lynch Global Research in July from UBS, and a spokesperson for his new employer tells Institutional Investor that “legal and compliance rules prohibit him from discussing his past recommendations.”
