Ireland Secures €1.48B IMF Loan

The International Monetary Fund has approved a €1.48 billion loan for Ireland under a financing program implemented last year.

The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has approved a €1.48 billion loan for Ireland under a financing program implemented last year, The Wall Street Journal reports. The program was put in place to help ward off an economic crisis in the country.

The Ireland government’s four-year €15 billion austerity program paved the way for a €85 billion bailout package from the IMF and the European Union, adds The Guardian. Ireland has so far got €8.7 billion of the total bailout package it has also been restricted from accessing the bond markets.
