EU Estimates Derivs Rule Delays

The European Union has forecasted delays in derivatives, short-selling rules.

The European Union (EU) has forecasted delays in derivatives, short-selling rules, Reuters reports. The EU parliament only wants to cover the off-exchange derivatives sector, while U.K. has been pressing for the draft law to cover all derivatives.

EU lawmakers and member states were also unable to agree on short-selling curbs for bond and stock markets. The regulators in the U.S. have also been forced to defer parts of their derivatives reform until the end of 2011 to win more time to finalize the rules.
