U.S. Heads ETF Crackdown

The regulators in U.S. are ahead of their U.K. counterparts in cracking down on exchange-traded funds over fears on their complexity.

The regulators in U.S. are ahead of their U.K. counterparts in cracking down on exchange-traded funds (ETFs) over fears on their complexity, Financial Times reports. The Securities and Exchange Commission and the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority in the U.S. have been voicing their concerns since 2009. The Bank of England, Financial Services Authority and Serious Fraud Office have started showing their concern in the last few months. The Financial Industry Regulatory Authority began an investigation regarding ETFs in May 2009 amid concerns that investors could be confused about the objectives of the product.
