Eric Alt

Eric Alt
Hall Capital Partners

At a time when funds of hedge funds are under fire, Eric Alt, the head of the absolute-return group at Hall Capital Partners, is working to reinvent the concept. The 44-year-old helps run the San Francisco–based firm’s $6 billion hedge fund program, advising managers on strategic direction. He serves on the advisory boards of Fortress Credit Opportunities Fund and Mount Kellett Capital Partners.

Alt, who has an MBA from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania, began his career in 1989 as an accountant with Arthur Andersen & Co. in Dallas. Following stints doing equity-linked new issues for investment banks Robertson Stephens and Piper Jaffray & Co. in San Francisco, he joined Hall in 2006. Two years later he was appointed to the four-person investment review committee for the firm, which oversees more than $22 billion in total assets. In that role he has helped pick 18 new investments after nearly 1,000 meetings with prospective hedge fund managers.
