Country & Regions – Hong Kong: Second

Chi Hung (Raymond) Ngai & team
Bank of America Merrill Lynch

After two years on top, the Bank of America Merrill Lynch team under Chi Hung (Raymond) Ngai slips to second place; Ngai also co-directs, with Simon Garing, the third-place contingent in Property. With 41 analysts monitoring more than 200 entities, the Hong Kong–based crew is judged “good at picking stocks, with thorough analyses and a close eye on the companies,” according to one U.K.-based portfolio manager. In April 2012 they reiterated a buy on Galaxy Entertainment Group, at HK$23.65, largely on its pipeline of new properties in Macau. (The team began recommending the stock back in August 2010, as a bargain at HK$5.68.) Shares of the Hong Kong–based casino operator soared 46.9 percent, to HK$34.75, and beat the Hang Seng Index by 38.7 percentage points, through April 2013. “The gaming sector will continue to outperform,” declares Ngai. — Ben Mattlin
