Credit Suisse’s Jamie Cook takes second place for a third straight year; she also is a runner-up in Machinery. With 23 stocks under coverage across both sectors, Cook is celebrated for her recent thematic work on the domestic energy market. A rise in energy-equipment spending leads to her current enthusiasm for Houston-based KBR, which provides energy-and-chemicals services for the petrochemicals industry. Its dominance in the liquefied-natural-gas and gas-to-liquids segment, where natural gas is converted into gasoline or diesel fuel, makes it “best positioned to benefit from gas monetization, with its historic market share of 30 to 35 percent,” says the analyst, who assumed coverage with an outperform rating in June 2010. For the 12 months through August, the stock gained 11.9 percent, rising from $26.69 to $29.86; during the same period the S&P 500 was up 16.7 percent. “Jamie goes out of her way to highlight the important issues and make sure investors are prepared,” marvels one asset manager. “I’m not sure when she sleeps!” — Ben Mattlin
