Team debut: 2005Morgan Stanley’s crew under the direction of Jack (Yuhin) Yeung ascends from second place to notch the firm’s first top finish on this roster and send former champion UBS down to No. 2. The four analysts “provide precise data analyses and in-depth views and always reply promptly,” one admirer reports. They report on 40 regional autos and auto parts companies and plan to increase their coverage of Chinese equities, including A shares. The sector’s shares fell 6.6 percent during the 12 months through April and lagged the broader market by 21.2 percentage points. Yeung, 32, and his colleagues deem the group attractive, with some caveats. “Price competition will increase as more new models come to the market,” he cautions. Their preferred name is China’s Chongqing Changan Automobile Co., which the squad forecasts “will have more new models in [sport utility vehicles] targeted at the mass market,” explains the team leader. He works out of Hong Kong, and before joining Morgan Stanley in October 2013, Yeung directed China autos research at Credit Suisse and monitored the sector for BNP Paribas. He received a bachelor’s degree in economics and international relations from the U.S.’s Johns Hopkins University and earned an MA in finance and accounting from the same institution’s Nitze School of Advanced International Studies.
