Every plan adviser needs either a broker dealer or registered investment advisor (RIA). But as the defined contribution market evolves, not every broker dealer or RIA has committed themselves to the necessary investments in technology and ERISA compliance measures to support the corporate retirement practices of plan advisers.

Institutional Investor surveyed of plan advisers to determine which firms are best supporting advisers and their clients in the DC market. A total of 305 advisers voted in the 2018 survey, nominating 47 broker dealers.
