J.P. Morgan Extends Winning Streak in U.S. Fixed-Income Research
J.P. Morgan appointed a new global head of fixed-income research late last year, but one thing that hasn’t changed is the firm’s dominance on the All-America Fixed-Income Research Team. It captures the top spot for a fourth year running.
From 2010 through 2012, Terrence Belton directed the firm’s fixed-income research. In December he was tapped to direct global portfolio strategy and was replaced by Joyce Chang, a name that’s well known to followers of Institutional Investor research. Chang led teams that logged a remarkable 29 total appearances — including 26 visits to the winner’s circle — on the All-America Fixed-Income Research Team from 1997 through last year. In addition, since 1996 she has led or co-led teams that ranked 14 times — and finished on top eight times — on the Latin America Research Team. Sectors in which her crews have ranked include Currency Strategy, Emerging-Markets Strategy, Emerging-Markets Sovereigns & Economics and Sovereign Debt.
J.P. Morgan captures 52 total positions on this year’s U.S. fixed-income team, one more than last year, and 20 of its appearances belong to analysts and teams deemed the best in their respective sectors. Bank of America Merrill Lynch returns in second place, with 42 spots — three more than last year. Barclays loses six positions, leaving it with 32; even so, the firm remains ensconced in the No. 3 spot. Rounding out the top five again this year, in fourth and fifth place, respectively, are Goldman Sachs & Co. and Wells Fargo Securities. Goldman’s total increases by two, to 25; Wells Fargo’s climbs by one, to 21.
The 2013 All-America Fixed-Income Research Team reflects the opinions of nearly 1,800 investment professionals at more than 500 buy-side institutions that collectively manage some $9.6 trillion in U.S. fixed-income assets.
