Kenneth Griffin and Henry Kravis have been named to the top 10 most active art buyers as ranked by ARTnews magazine. In its 11th annual ranking, the publication bumped Leon Black, Stephen Wynn and Leslie Wexner from the top 10 to make room for Griffin of Citadel Investment Group and Kravis of Kohlberg Kravis Roberts. The third new member of the top 10 is the non-hedgie Charles Schwab. Commenting on the addition of two more hedge fund managers in the top 10 – already long populating the top of the list are Steven Cohen -- -Michael Findlay, director of Acquavella Galleries in an interview with ARTnews, noted that when it comes to art, hedgies “combine the means, the aggression, the enthusiasm and access. It’s another forum to demonstrate the same kind of acumen.” Another big hedge fund name on the list of the rest of the top 200 is Daniel Loeb of Third Point. ARTnews would not disclose how much each spent on art and listed them alphabetically. Other members of the top 10, who are outside the alternatives arena are Eli Broad, Ronald Lauder, Sammy Ofer, Francois Pinault, Mitchell Rales and Charles Saatchi.
